Ben Simmons’ Surgery Success: Nets All-Star’s Return Timeline Revealed

Ben Simmons has endured a very tough stint with the Brooklyn Nets. He has had to deal with constant injuries, especially occurring in his knee and his back. This hasn’t just cost Simmons several matches but has also deleted entire seasons from his career. 2024 has proven to be more of the same for Ben Simmons, as he has missed over 50 games due to a back injury. Simmons last played in the NBA on 26th February against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Since then, he has been sidelined due to a pinched nerve injury in his lower back. However, reports have emerged that Simmons had undergone a successful microscopic partial discectomy on Thursday to alleviate nerve impingement. But on the flip side, Ben Simmons has been ruled out for the entirety of the 2023-24 season. According to Nets Daily’s Anthony Puccio, “He (Ben Simmons) is expected to make a full recovery in time for training camp next season.”

This is the second back surgery Ben Simmons has had in the last two seasons. In May 2022, Simmons had to undergo microdiscectomy surgery in order to repair a herniated L-4 disk. Last season, the injury bug bit Simmons once again, as he played just 42 games before suffering multiple knee and back injuries. It’s a shame to see a player with Simmons’ potential to constantly get injured. In fact, since the 2020-21 season, Ben Simmons has only played 57 games. Back and knee injuries have wreaked havoc on Simmons’ burgeoning NBA career.
Now 27-years-old, Simmons faces another lengthy spell on the sidelines after having played just 15 games this season. Simmons’ most recent back injury has also cast a shadow over his future with the Nets, as they can’t afford a player who’s on $40.3 million to miss most of the next season with injuries. However, persisting with Simmons might prove to be a smart move following his promising performance at the beginning of the season.
