Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs were just one step away from history in New Orleans yesterday. They aimed to become the first team to win three Super Bowls in a row in NFL History. However, it wasn’t the evening Mahomes and Co. wished for, as they suffered a heavy defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles.

While the entire Chiefs team was stunned, Mahomes was visibly distraught. Since then, several questions have been raised about the team’s poor performance, but some fans believe NBA superstar Luka Doncic might have been the reason for Mahomes’ forgetful outing. How? You might ask. Well, earlier this week the Chiefs quarterback showed his disappointment on the Doncic trade.

It’s tough,” Mahomes told the reporters. “You know, I’ve watched Luka since he was 18 years old. I remember going to a practice and it was Dirk [Nowitzki] and Luka, and seeing his maturation and how great of a basketball player he’s become, it’s been fun to watch.” He further added, “As a Dallas fan, it hurts me.” As he expressed his feelings on the trade. Fast forward to just a week later, Mahomes seemed to be out of his usual groove.

This led the fans to believe that this trade has left a mark on the NFL superstar. In fact, not just fans, but even Kendrick Perkins shared this thought. “I don’t think Mahomes is over that Luka trade yet.” He wrote on X. While it might have impacted Mahomes on an emotional level, it’s hard to believe a professional superstar like Mahomes would let that affect arguably the biggest night of his football career yet. But, he also had a slightly unexpected reaction to Doncic’s trade.

Patrick Mahomes was ‘sick’ by the Dallas Mavericks’ decision to trade Luka Doncic

After leading the Dallas Mavericks to their first final since 2011, their decision to send their perennial All-Star Luka Doncic left the entire NBA world feeling shockwaves. Several NBA stars including Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes, were in disbelief, too. He has been a long-time Mavericks fan and gave his initial reaction to the trade through X (formerly Twitter).

Wait what?” Mahomes tweeted in shock when the news first broke through. Many people did not believe in the news at first, thinking it was fake. However, later ESPN’s Shams Charania confirmed that it was completely true and that his account was not hacked by anyone. Mahomes added to his previous tweet, “I’m Sick rn…..” expressing his thoughts on the move.

With Doncic and Mahomes sharing a great relationship it was apt that the NFL superstar was surprised and sad. However, fans claiming that to be the sole reason for the Chiefs’ defeat might be a stretch. The Eagles were certainly the better team on the night and deserved the win. Moreover, Mahomes should get back stronger as he accepted that he didn’t play to his standards and took the blame for his team’s defeat.
