Stephen Curry has become one of the most influential figures in basketball after enjoying an illustrious 15-season NBA career. He is one of the most financially dependable modern-day athletes. Hence, American sportswear manufacturer Under Armour decided to extend their partnership with Curry. Under Armour handed Curry 8.8 million restricted stock units worth $75 million as a part of the agreement. Steph also launched the Curry brand in association with Under Armour.

Stephen Curry signed De’Aaron Fox as the first athlete to represent the Curry Brand. However, he chose women’s college basketball star, MiLaysia Fulwiley, as the first female athlete to represent the Curry Brand. MiLaysia came to mainstream media’s attention after her stellar performances for the University of South Carolina. In fact, she became just the first South Carolina freshman to become the MVP of the SEC tournament.

Steph handing her a lucrative NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) is a big step forward for women’s basketball, and the sport as a whole. However, this isn’t the first time that Steph has taken things into his own hands to make the playing field equal for women.

In 2021, Stephen and Ayesha Curry announced the creation of a scholarship fund to increase the level of women’s athletics in Davidson. The scholarships, as per some reports, are worth $100,000 each.

According to reports, “The Curry Family Women’s Athletics’ Initiative supports Davidson’s 10 women’s athletics programs.” During an interview, Davidson’s athletic director Chris Clunie expressed his satisfaction in collaborating with Steph. Stephen Curry has been a strong advocate for equality in all walks of life. After all, he is raising two daughters, Riley (12) and Ryan (10), along with his wife Ayesha. Steph even called out the NCAA for the lack of parity in women’s sport in 2021. Curry choosing MiLaysia Fulwiley as the first female athlete to represent is a huge step in the right direction, but there’s still a lot to be done.
