When Erik Spoelstra took the reins of the Miami Heat franchise in 2009, not many expected him to become one of the greatest coaches in NBA history. He took over a team built by legend Pat Riley, and that was a tough act to follow. However, Spoelstra exceeded expectations and led Miami to two NBA Championships in 2012 and 2013. 15 years after his appointment, he is now the longest-tenured coach in Heat franchise history.

And it looks like the Miami Heat are in no mood to part ways with Coach Spo. Erik Spoelstra has reportedly signed a record-breaking contract extension with the Heat that will earn him over $120 million. Heat Nation was ecstatic about Spoelstra’s well-deserved extension.

Can Erik Spoelstra prove his worth this season?

Erik Spoelstra has led the Miami Heat to 6 NBA Finals during his tenure as the head coach. However, he has not been able to get them over the hump since winning the 2013 Championship with LeBron James. Miami came close to winning the title last season but got decimated by Nikola Jokic and Co. in the finals. Now that Spoelstra’s future is secure in Miami with his new contract extension, he will look to prove his worth by winning the title this season.

Jimmy Butler and Co. are having a great season so far. They are 5th in the Eastern Conference with a 21-15 record. That is much better than their last season’s performance in the regular season, where they finished as the 8th seed. Spoelstra has proved himself as one of the best coaches in NBA history and will look to add to his Hall of Fame resume by winning his 3rd ring this season.
