After his incredible performance at the FIBA World Cup 2023, this 20-year-old Serbian star earned a lot of praise from the NBA world. And due to his stellar performance, fans and analysts expected him to have a bigger role in his franchise. However, his team, the Miami Heat, only provides him with a limited amount of playing time which has raised questions about his role in the club.

So, the team’s coach Erik Spoelstra spoke about Nikola Jovic and his importance for the Heat. He even reassured the club fans and credited the Serbian star for his talents.
Miami head coach talks about the young Serbian sensation
Following an excellent performance at the FIBA World Cup, Nikola Jovic proved his value. And due to his efforts in securing his nation a silver medal, there were a lot of talks about his role in the NBA. However, the young star has only played in two games in total this season. This has left the supporters anxious for an explanation of his inactivity.

Coach Spoelstra addressed the matter of Jovic’s playing time directly due?to the?rising complaints. “The fact that Nikola Jovic is not playing should not be an indication of how we feel that he’s developed. He?s taking major strides; this is all part of the development process”, Spoelstra said. He underlines that Jovic, who had been the youngest player last year, continues to be in the early phases of his growth. And because of that, he?has to cope with his?natural development.

The coach also discusses the development process of the young stars and emphasizes that Jovic’s circumstance is not unusual. How has Jovic performed so far in his limited play time?
Nikola Jovic’s performance has been very inconsistent. He showed his talent in his debut game against Minnesota, scoring eight points and grabbing 11 rebounds. However, in the next game against the Bucks where he only got 7 minutes to play, he only could secure 4 rebounds and produce 5 points.
From November, Jovic had been unavailable to play due to a non-covid illness. Nevertheless, the Heat head coach showed his faith in the young prodigy and said that he was on the right track of development.
