Following Giannis’ Pacers Drama, Luka Doncic Gets Honest About Getting Game Ball After Breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s Record

After Saturday night’s 131-120 win against the Portland Trail Blazers, the Dallas Mavericks improved their season record to 16-9, thanks in part to Luka Doncic‘s monstrous performance. The 24-year-old recorded his 61st career triple-double with 40 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists in Portland. In addition to leading his team to victory, he also broke a slew of records. For starters, he surpassed NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain for the fourth spot on the all-time 40-point triple-doubles list. While Wilt had seven such career games, Luka achieved that feat eight times at just 24.
The record-breaking stat line deserved to be commemorated, and he did so by bringing the game ball with him. However, with all the drama going on with Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s game ball, Luka expressed his honest thoughts on receiving the game ball.

Luka bringing back the game ball to the post-game interview caught the attention of a journalist, who decided to stir the pot a little. When asked if the ball he brought back was the actual game ball, Luka responded, “I think so.” The journalist then continued, “Because Giannis had little trouble…,” which led Luka to unravel his honest thoughts on the entire ordeal. “I don’t mind that much,” stated the four-time NBA All-Star.

Luka is now only behind Russell Westbrook (13), James Harden (16) and Oscar Robertson (22) in the 40-point triple-doubles list. It won’t be long until he outshines them all, as he is just entering his prime years. In addition, he also passed Dirk Nowitzki for most 35-point games as a Maverick. To put things in perspective, it took Nowitzki 1,522 games over 21 seasons to do that, while Doncic achieved the feat in 354 games and just in his sixth season in the league.

The Milwaukee Bucks bagged a massive 140-126 win over the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night. However, their night did not end without some drama. Giannis Antetokounmpo exploded with a career-high and franchise-high 64-point performance to lead his team to victory. However, his celebrations were dampened, as he couldn’t find the game ball to commemorate his achievement.
The Pacers intended to give the ball to Oscar Tshiebwa for scoring his first official NBA point. This led Giannis to cause a fracas in his pursuit to get the game ball, which included storming into the Pacers’ locker room looking for it. When he eventually did get his hands on the game ball, he claimed that it did not feel like the real one used during the game. “I have a ball, but I don’t know if it’s the game ball. It doesn’t feel like the game ball to me,” Antetokounmpo said. “It feels like a brand new ball. I can tell, I played, what, 35 minutes today? I know how the game ball felt.”
