Following in the Footsteps of LeBron James and Stephen Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo Sets His Sights on Hollywood After Conquering NBA

In the current era, athletes are displaying a growing inclination toward diversifying their wealth through ventures in different industries. We have seen it with Michael Jordan and the Jordan brand. LeBron James and Stephen Curry are the more popular names right now who have multiple business ventures that add to their finances from their basketball career. Following these two, Giannis Antetokounmpo has now ventured into the film world.
In a recent post on Instagram, Giannis announced the launch of his very own production company, Improbable Media. Additionally, he unveiled the inaugural project under his newly established banner, titled ‘Giannis: The Marvelous Journey,’ set to premiere on February 19th on Amazon Prime. Giannis wrote, “Proud to announce the launch of Improbable Media with my family and our first feature-length production. It’s the true story about me and my family’s journey and I can’t wait to share it with you. ‘Giannis: The Marvelous Journey’”

Giannis is not the first NBA superstar to venture into the production business. Stephen Curry launched Unanimous Media with Erick Peyton in 2018. Since its inception, the media house has produced shows like Underrated, Jump Shot, Black Pop, About Last Night, and various other shows.
LeBron James also ventured into the production business, as he launched SpringHill Company in 2020, with Maverick Carter. Tennis legend Serena Williams is on the board of directors of the company. In three years, SpringHill Productions have churred out projects like Space Jam: A New Legacy, Hustle, and Black Ice.

The many hats worn by Giannis
While Giannis is the face of Improbable Media, former NBA star Jay Williams is also a co-founder. Alongside Giannis and Williams, Jonathan Stern, who held executive roles with Red Bull Media House, is serving as the CEO of the company. In an interview with the Sports Business Journal, the Greek said that ‘Giannis: The Marvelous Journey’ will “set the tone” for the production house. The documentary will focus on the Antetokounmpo family’s journey from Greece to the United States and the NBA.

Apart from owning a production house, the 29-year-old has also diversified his wealth into other industries. Giannis, along with his brothers Thanasis, Kostas, and Alex, have become investors in Los Angeles Golf Club. The brothers have also become minority investors of MLS club Nashville SC. Giannis is also a major investor in the MLB franchise, Milwaukee Brewers. Besides this, he is also a dedicated philanthropist who, through his Charles Antetokounmpo Family Foundation, helps people in need from Milwaukee to his home country Greece, and beyond.
