LeBron James came to his son Bronny James’ rescue after ESPN dropped him from the 2024 NBA mock draft. According to ESPN, Bronny will go undrafted if he declares for the NBA draft this summer. The 19-year-old is more likely to be drafted next year after spending another year in college. LeBron got fed up with the assumptions and posted a viral rant on X, which he later deleted.

“Can yall please just let the kid be a kid and enjoy college basketball. The work and results will ultimately do the talking no matter what he decides to do. If y’all don’t know he doesn’t even care what a mock draft says, he just WORKS! Earned Not Given!” King James tweeted. A day after his rant, NFL legends Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson hit LeBron with a harsh reality check. “God wasn’t gonna double bless you.” Shannon claimed there was very little chance Bronny would be lucky enough to be blessed with his father’s talent. It is a rarity in the sports world that a father-son duo turns out to be highly talented.

Sharpe also said that LeBron needed to be more careful when speaking out. Sharpe claimed people were bound to come after Bronny following what LeBron tweeted about him last year. LeBron made a bold claim about his son when he was still in high school, “Man Bronny definitely better than some of these cats I’ve been watching on league pass today. Sh*t lightweight hilarious.”

Even though Sharpe was okay with LeBron defending his son, he believed calling a high school kid better than NBA players was an overstatement.

Shannon Sharpe compared LeBron James to LaVar Ball

While giving LeBron a harsh reality check, Shannon made an unusual comparison between him and LaVar Ball. Before Lonzo Ball had played a single game in the NBA, his father, LaVar Ball, made a massive claim about him. “You can’t compare my boy to anyone… He’s gonna be better than Steph Curry in the NBA!” LaVar said in a 2017 interview with TMZ. At the time, Steph was the reigning 2-time MVP and arguably the best guard in the league.

Although LaVar might have done it to hype his son and get some eyeballs on him, it put unnecessary pressure on Lonzo when he entered the league. Shannon believes LeBron might be facing a similar situation. When LeBron claimed Bronny was better in high school than some of the NBA players, that put a target on his back. And it got even more limelight because Bronny is the son of arguably the Greatest NBA player of all time.
