The NBA is a hotbed of drama, and Jordan Poole seems to have weathered more than his fair share. The 24-year-old has faced more twists and turns in his five years in the league than many endure throughout their entire careers. He was drafted out of Michigan as the overall 28th pick by the Golden State Warriors in the 2019 NBA Draft. After an underwhelming rookie and sophomore year with the team, he was sent to the G League, Santa Clara. This is where he started to blossom as the sharpshooter who contributed heavily during the Warriors’ 2022 championship run. However, he then fell from grace once again.

Despite going through so many ups and downs, the Wizards guard has managed to maintain a relatively impassive demeanor throughout. Following this, Poole is facing severe criticism for his unemotional disposition.

In the recent episode of the Club 520 Podcast, the panel had an intense discussion on the players who had the worst last year. Among the rookies, they reached a consensus that Poole had the toughest year. Beginning with his altercation with Draymond Green during training camp and continuing through his underwhelming season with the new team, the panel collectively agreed that nobody else endured such a rough period.

It started when Green decked the former Wolverine in the face. However, despite being punched, Poole only responded with short, professional responses or humorous memes even though he had every reason to be upset. “He got his a** whooped and wasn’t sad about it,” remarked one of the panel members.

Unfortunately for Poole, this was just the beginning. Despite coming off the best season of his career and signing a four-year, $140 million extension with the Warriors, he was shipped to the Wizards to fix the chemistry issues within the Bay Area team. Initially, he was seen as the franchise cornerstone the Wizards would rebuild around. However, his recent performances dashed those hopes.

Through 31 games this season, the Wizards guard is only averaging 17.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on 41.4 percent from the floor. This was unexpected after he displayed flashes of a dynamic scorer during his time with the Golden State. However, his inconsistent performance can also be attributed to the change in the environment.

The Warriors’ playing style revolves around ball-sharing among players and active off-ball movement. However, in Washington, they let their stars go one-on-five offensively. There is no player movement, no cutting, and no sets to create easy scoring opportunities for the players.
