As NBA players call out referees more frequently, LeBron James leads the way; well, at least it seems like that. The Capital One Arena saw the Los Angeles Lakers visiting the Washington Wizards for their 2nd and final encounter. With the host’s bottom stature in the standings, the LA team aimed to garner an easy win on the back of their 2-game winning streak. As LeBron James spewed an efficient 25 points, he wasn’t happy with a refereeing decision. He pumped up the pace from the half-court during a play, ultimately soaring through an open lane.

As he managed to sink an acrobatic lay-up despite the contest in the paint, James felt unwarranted contact during play. With that, a leaked audio suspects James to yell, “Call the f*****g foul,” to the official present at the baseline. Regardless of their seeding difference, the Wizards managed to keep the Lakers on their toes; mostly in the 4th quarter. Entering the final stretch with a 15-point deficit, the Wizards put on their best run of the game. This forced what could have been an easy blowout, to a close 125-120 winning endeavor for purple and gold.

While the turn of events forced James to play more minutes than he should, he posted a decent 25 points (50% shooting), alongside 9 assists and 7 rebounds. A part of the final stretch’s lopsidedness came from the Lakers’ cold touch from the 3P line. While D’Angelo Russell managed to sink 4 on a heavy 10 attempts, Austin Reaves and Spencer Dinwiddie combined for 2 out of 9 from distance! Taurean Prince converted 1 of his 3 long balls, and Gabe Vincent and Jaxson Hayes failed to leave a mark. With that, the only thing on the Lakers’ side was Anthony Davis’ dominance near the basket.

It seemed like all the Lakers wanted was to head back home. Being a transition-heavy team, they posted only 17 points on fastbreak while the Wizards garnered 34. Moreover, despite Rui Hachimura’s inclination to crash the boards, they were outrebounded by 10. The only thing the Wizards did not have the answer for was Anthony Davis.

Like the game he plays without LeBron James, Davis got off the mark quickly. The center posted 19 first-quarter points, all while aggressively driving the lane and marking 11 trips to the free-throw line. As Davis suffered yet another blow to his eye in the game, he managed to overpower the smaller Washington squad. Davis garnered a double-double with 35 points (10-17 from the field) and 18 rebounds, alongside 3 blocks.
