Nike and LeBron’s newest collaboration

King James shared a post to his story today that announced a collaboration with Nike. The post announced that House Three Thirty is now an official Nike Retail location with future Nike and LeBron Exclusives. Not only that, the account even announced that the newest LeBron x Nike collab, the ‘Eggplant‘ would be available here. The design is said to carry the legacy of Air Foamposite One’s colorway and have the Lakers’ star’s signature L23 imprinted. Nike had been teasing the shoe for a while now, and fans expected it to drop this summer.

Nike’s recent public outrage

Nike has not had the best run as of late. The company may be attempting to recover after facing public criticism over recent launches. This partnership with LeBron James might salvage some of Nike’s public image. The LeBron 21’s unveiling last year was met with strong criticism from fans who questioned the uniqueness of the entire LeBron series. People expressed dissatisfaction with the design and drew comparisons to the Kobe Protro. In addition, the release of Devin Booker’s Book 1 was met with criticism from fans who felt that the shoe’s design was more suited for a lifestyle shoe than a performance shoe. Notably, Nike first delayed the shoe’s distribution in Phoenix, which aggravated public dissatisfaction.

Nike has had a string of such disappointments in the past. The controversy surrounding their Fourth of July shoes and the aftermath has not completely died yet either. The shoes, which featured Betsy Ross’s original design of the U.S. flag, were taken off the stores when Colin Kaepernick, Nike’s spokesperson and former NFL player, made comments that seemed to link the flag with slavery.

In response, Nike is utilizing its relationship with LeBron James to rekindle fan enthusiasm and faith. Through a partnership with one of the most recognizable names in basketball, Nike hopes to restablish its position as a pioneer in sneaker culture. This move indicates Nike’s plan to overcome its recent losses and take back the lead in athletic footwear.
