On March 6, during a pivotal game between the Boston Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers, Grant Williams was under intense pressure to make a free shot. Williams received a foul while attempting a jumper with the score tied at 109-109. And the clock was running out. This pivotal moment later became one of the season’s viral incidents, putting Williams in the spotlight. And maybe not for the best reasons.

And most recently, Grant Williams revealed how he felt about the whole incident.

As Williams prepared for his shot, he was spotted speaking to Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell in an outburst of unshakeable confidence. “Imma Make Em Both,”  he said. As luck would have it, things didn’t go as Williams had hoped. He approached the free-throw line with the outcome of the game on the line. Unfortunately, both of his efforts were unsuccessful because they were off-target.

The surprising change of events cost the Celtics dearly since it forced overtime when the Cavaliers took advantage of their newly found momentum. Williams put in a valiant effort. However, Boston Celtics ultimately came up short; Cleveland ultimately won 118-114.

And the former Celtics player recently opened up about this embarrassing moment on ‘The Old Man and the Three podcast.

He revealed how that night was probably the most frustrating he has ever been in the league. He took the hit hard even though he was able to laugh at it the next day. His humor was on point when he tweeted his infamous missed throws for a ‘“I’m not him” moment in history ‘tweet.

In retrospect, it was merely a regular-season contest. In a similar circumstance against the Knicks earlier in the season, his teammate Jaylen Brown missed two free throws. And Boston booed him for it. So it felt even worse when it occurred to him. He had been making free throws at a high percentage the year before. So he felt confident in his ability to make them.

He said, “You gotta say like be confident I’m gonna make both or I’m you gotta like not say anything at all. And for me to say that and then not do it was probably the most like you look like a nimwit moment of my career.”

However, at the same time, he was also able to laugh about it. ” You got to be able to laugh at it yourself unless you’re gonna be like crushing yourself downhill for the rest of the season,” he said.

So, what lies in store for Williams next season?

Grant Williams is now a Maverick

The Dallas Mavericks have brought in Grant Williams to help them upgrade their defense. Williams signed a lucrative four-year, $54 million contract through a sign-and-trade deal by the Mavericks. Williams is prepared to start contributing right away for his new team as a restricted free agent. He discussed his goals for his role on both sides of the floor in Dallas during an interview on the podcast ‘The Old Man & The Three with JJ Redick and Tommy Alter.

He said, “In a perfect world, in a role that I star in, it looks like being a versatile defender on the defensive end guarding the best player, high impact energy guy but also being a part of the offense and being utilized well.”

The 23-year-old forward has made a lot of progress since joining the Celtics. His arrival might be a huge step in the right direction for the Mavericks as they seek to strengthen their defense.
