Another game, another scary visual for the Dub Nation. The Golden State Warriors are playing the first game in their second-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves. But despite having a commanding lead in the first half, things don’t look good for the Dubs. And it might be the worst-case scenario — an injury to Stephen Curry.

Early in the second quarter, the Warriors went on a 14-0 run, dominating the T-Wolves. But something seemed off with Steph. He seemed to be limping and signaled to the bench, asking for a sub. But things got a lot more concerning after Steph hit a floater, then started grabbing his hamstring.

Soon, head coach Steve Kerr called a timeout. And Steph headed straight to the locker room. Lauren Jbara, live reporter for TNT, followed up with Curry in the locker room. And she revealed that Steph had been ruled out of tonight’s game with a strained hamstring. “Steph Curry officially [has] a left hamstring strain. Will not return to tonight’s game,” she reported live on TNT’s broadcast.

In the 13 minutes that Steph managed to play, he put up 13 points, 1 rebound, and 1 assist. Seems that’s where his contributions end for the Dubs tonight. Nonetheless, a hamstring injury to Steph will ring war sirens within the Dubs – both the organization and the fanbase. After all, at 37, Steph has a few miles on him. And soft-tissue injuries like hamstring issues are always concerning, no matter how old or fit you are.

But as we await further details on the severity of Steph’s injury, Dr. Nirav Pandya, professor of Orthopedic Surgery at UCSF, helped fans understand more about this injury to Steph.

Doctor on X gives us an insight into Steph Curry’s injury

All the travelling and intense minutes of basketball seem to have taken their toll on Stephen Curry. And now this worrying injury to his hamstring has put a damper on the Dubs’ incredible performance so far in Game 1 in the second-round series against the T-Wolves. But at least we have some insight into this injury thanks to UCSF’s Dr. Nirav Pandya.

“Important thing to understand is that a “strain” is some degree of tearing of the hamstring muscle,” he wrote in his X post. He then revealed that the grade, location and number of hamstring muscles involved, and even how swollen it is, all play a factor in determining when the injured player can return. Dr. Pandya revealed that a tear in the “muscle belly is better than higher up in the leg.”

Finally, he revealed that a study on these injuries in NBA players over a 5-year period showed that they missed 6 games on average when recovering from this injury. But he also made an important clarification. “This doesn’t mean that Curry can’t be back sooner but it’s all based on the factors above,” wrote Dr. Pandya.
