The head coach of the Golden State Warriors soon into his college basketball career realized what a close-knit family means. After the tragic assassination of his father, Kerr escalated his career from a mere freshman at Arizona University to a basketball powerhouse. Because he has grown into an echo of his father, father time holds top priority for the head coach. And the former Spurs player took some time to perform his father’s duties.

The Golden State Warriors faced the Denver Nuggets on November 8th, followed by a two-day break. While star players used this time to rejuvenate and get back into “dubs” mode, the coach had different plans. Traveling from the Ball Arena to Santa Cruz, the Warriors’ head coach blocked out time to see his son.

The GSW head coach indeed has the toughest job of keeping the team in order. He has to make sure that the players get enough rest. However, his social life takes a toll on all of this. So, on his off day, Kerr utilized the opportunity to give his son a visit. Nicholas “Nick” Kerr is the coach of the Santa Cruz Warriors, the NBA G League affiliate of the Golden State Warriors. Well, the Santa Cruz Warriors had a game schedule against the Stockton Kings at Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz, CA.

And Sr. Kerr was sitting in the audience to watch his son coach a win. As Cruz swept a season-opening win, Steve Kerr’s smile said it all. He said in the Warriors vs. Cavaliers pregame press conference, “As a dad, I couldn’t be more proud,” and that’s that.

The next game with the Salt Lake City Stars begins tonight for the Warrior’s G League team. After a refreshing father-son time, Kerr Sr. and Kerr Jr. might lead their teams in the best way possible to secure a win. However, the Golden State Warriors seem to suffer tonight at the Chase Center.

Steve Kerr’s Children

Steve Kerr and his wife, Margot Kerr, have a family of five, with Nick, Madeline, and Matthew Kerr being the three children. The Dub’s head coach definitely owes a great deal of his success to his family’s support, hence the strong relationship with the kids.

While Nick enjoyed his father’s NBA games from Mummy Kerr’s lap, back when he was a toddler, the same passion and curiosity landed him a coach’s role. Although he did not pan out as an NBA player, he did join the Spurs in 2017-18 as an assistant to the video room. Later, he joined Golden State’s G League affiliate for two seasons. In August earlier this year, he replaced Seth Cooper to run the Golden State’s development program for players.

Madeline, his daughter, is a Berkley graduate and a corporate associate at Gunderson Dettmer. Despite her paralegal status, her passion for basketball never died down. She has a knack for binge-watching games on and off the court.

The youngest one, Matthew, however, is the complete opposite of his sports-loving family. In an old interview with The Athletic, he says, “I’m not at all a sports person — that’s important to note”. He graduated from the USC Film School in Screenwriting. He focuses his attention on comedy TV writing. His notable works include working with the team on the hit show, Ted Lasso.

With Maddy and Matthew sharing a close resemblance to their mother, the outspoken and feisty behavior is common in the trio. It’s undeniable that the Kerr family is really close-knit, as Maddy revealed on the “Good Quality Podcast” a while back.
