In the ever-evolving landscape of the NBA, where narratives change like the wind, one player is forcing the basketball world to sit up and take notice of De’Aaron Fox. Recently, the Sacramento Kings’ guard has been the center of attention in the MVP race. While there are many famous league players, Fox’s shining performances have not only caught fans’ attention but have also resulted in being named the NBA Player of the Week for Week 6 of the 2023-24 season. Now, there is a big buzz about Fox and some people are of the view that he deserves more plaudits.

Fox’s MVP Candidacy: Underrated No More

Former GSW star Andre Iguodala, in his Point Forward podcast, drew a compelling parallel to Ja Morant. Iguodala emphasized the disparity in perception and his bold assertion raises questions about the role of perception in the evaluation of NBA talent. Iguodala said, “Fox is having an incredible year. I think we kind of he’s not being slept on but he’s averaging 30 and I know we’re in an inflationary”. And Evan Turner continued, “I feel like if Ja Morant was doing what Fox was doing not to get too far ahead of in season you know tournament but like J was doing that we’d be screaming League MVP and doing that dumbass little dance and going absolutely crazy.”

Fox’s statistic supremacy was with 30 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 6.5 assists. Fox’s accomplishments are indeed being overshadowed by their true recognition. Iguodala’s comments mirror this viewpoint. Comparing his play to Morant, one of the most highly praised, shows that Fox’s game should demand that much conversation on the MVP. As Fox ascends the ranks and garners attention for his remarkable contributions, the question lingers: It is time to change the story of De’Aaron Fox from slept-on to underrated MVP contender.

De’Aaron Fox was one of the best players in the NBA during week 6, alongside Julius Randle who was NBA Player of the Week. Fox was simply fantastic as the week ended up with a 3-1 record in favor of the team. Fox’s all-around wizardry is captured vividly as he scored an average of 31.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 8.7 assists.

As he was instrumental in helping the Kings defeat the Golden State Warriors by 112-110, this was a standout moment for him. Significantly, this win demonstrated Fox’s capacity to pull back and secure two games against the Warriors in this particular season. This victory saw the team qualify for the Knockout Rounds of the In-Season Tournament.
