The Golden State Warriors aren’t ready to throw in the towel just yet. They believe in their veteran core and that was apparent in their quiet deadline. Everyone expected the Warriors to at least trade Andrew Wiggins, who, by far, is having the worst season of his career.

But it seems like even Wiggs has been exempt from the deadline scare. According to the Bay Area Sports station, Kerr said, “[Wiggins] definitely wanted to stay. I talked to him the night of the trade deadline, he was very relieved. I was relieved too. I love Wiggs and I really wanted him here. I know what he can do. I know what he means to the team, the whole team loves him.”

Of course, the team loves him! It was just yesterday that Draymond Green, Stephen Curry, and Klay Thompson all opened up to Logan Murdock of The Ringer on the future of the GSW. Steve Kerr had also joined the famous trio in reiterating that the Dubs were far from finished. And that includes Wiggins – the All-Star caliber player who was key to their 2022 title run.

This isn’t the first time Kerr has talked about his appreciation for the 28-year-old family man. Earlier this month, the Dubs coach gave Wiggs his due for all he has done and everything he can do for the team. He mentioned how he’s been a big part of the Warriors and affirmed his hope of seeing the Canadian with the team.

It seems like the franchise also believes in Kerr’s assessment and Wiggins’ skills. But this isn’t a complete relief. The Warriors can very well revisit the trade options in the offseason. Especially given that he’s been playing better and therefore will have better market value.

When we say Wiggins has the worst numbers this season, they are not just empty words. Not once in his entire career has he averaged lower than 16. Even his rookie season saw Wiggs with 16.9 points per game. But the 2023-24 season stat sheet shows his numbers at 12.5 points, 1.6 assists, 0.5 blocks, and steals per game. So, it was not surprising when the Warriors considered him as the main player to trade.

But he has been picking up his pace of late. And that could be the reason for his confidence when he said, “I knew I would get out of it. I didn’t know when. But I knew.
