“Dennis Schroder is going to make the Hall of Fame, and I think he’s definitely going to make the Hall of Fame if they win this tournament, which is going to cause people to go berserk,” wrote Tim Bontemps in a recent discussion on ‘The Hoop Collective’ podcast. The recently turned 32-year-old hasn’t had too much of an impressive run in the NBA. He has switched between 10 different teams, and he has not even made the All-Star team once over the course of his 12-year-long NBA career. Despite this, Tim Bontemps and others like German basketball player Maodo Lo endorse the idea of Schroder being a Hall of Fame inductee.

In light of this, the question that needs to be asked is whether that is a possibility.

How Did Dennis Schroder Perform at EuroBasket 2025?

Dennis Schroder’s recent run with Team Germany at EuroBasket 2025 was a success. The point guard/shooting guard led the national team through the group stage by defeating all four opponents by a reported combined margin of 134 points. In the Round of 16, Germany struggled through the first three quarters of their game against Portugal, but succeeded. The squad destroyed the hopes of the Luka Doncic-led Team Slovenia through a score of 99–91, and made it to their second consecutive semi-finals of EuroBasket. After defeating Finland by a 98–86 score, Germany defeated Turkey 88-83 to win their first Gold Medal in EuroBasket since 1993.

Throughout the 9 games, Dennis Schroder averaged 20.3 points, along with 3.4 rebounds and 7.2 assists, by shooting 4.6-7.9 (57.7%) field goals, 2.2-6.8 (32.8%) 3-pointers, and 4.6/5.2 (87.2%) free throws. He was the 10th highest average scorer of the EuroBasket 2025 tournament, and ranked 12th in overall efficiency.

His performance and his win in the Finals allowed him to secure the TISSOT MVP of FIBA EuroBasket 2025 title. Schroder is now only the 3rd German player to win the MVP award, following Chris Welp back in 1993, and Dirk Nowitzki after he led Team Germany to the silver medal back in 2005’s EuroBasket.

Can Dennis Schroder Become the Hall of Famer?

As mentioned earlier, Dennis Schroder hasn’t earned enough accolades within the NBA, and he has shifted between too many franchises. However, Tim Bontemps believes that the Sacramento Kings star might create history by getting into the Hall of Fame solely based on ‘international accolades’.

“When you look at Dennis Schroder’s international career, I think if they win this tournament, he’s going to make the Hall of Fame eventually as an international entry, which will, I’m sure, cause people to go crazy,” said Bontemps. “But he’s got a pretty damn good international resume if they win this thing.”

Does Dennis Schroder’s NBA Career Help His Hall of Fame Chances?

NBA reporter Matthew Dugandzic highlighted, in a recent report, that “All the NBA teams that have had Schröder on their roster have wondered if he could replicate that success with them, but it has never worked out.” Dugandzic stated that this occurs because Schroder works the best “when he has complete reins over a squad”. Team Germany proved that. However, unlike the national squad, each NBA franchise has its own top player. In light of that, the 6-foot-1 point guard has to adapt and play a role.

Dennis Schroder’s Hall of Fame hopes could get a boost through a championship win. However, the player is currently with the Sacramento Kings. The same franchise that has made the playoffs only once over the course of 19 years! On top of that, Schroder fell even further in his average score, as he recorded only 13.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game back in the 2025-26 NBA season.

How Does the Hall of Fame Process Work?

To be eligible to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, a player must be fully retired for four full seasons. He/she can only then be considered for Enshrinement in the fifth year of retirement. There are some exceptions, as seen in the recent case of LeBron James and Chris Paul, when a player is inducted as part of a special Olympic team or one that secured fame in an international tournament. Once they meet the eligibility criteria, the players are analyzed by the Screening Committees.

The North American Committee consists of nine voting members and, if they give a nominee zero affirmative votes for three consecutive years (0-27 or 0-21), that nominee’s candidacy is suspended for five years. After some time, he may again be reviewed by the Screening Committee.

Those who pass the Screening Committees are then reviewed by the BHOF Board of Trustees. In the end, a player goes through a screening from the Honors Committee and the Direct-Elect Committees.

As ‘Yardbarker’ journalist Marquis Appling highlighted, Hall of Fame cases are rarely sealed based solely on international play. According to him, Schroder will need ‘incremental or dramatic upshifts’, since Hall of Fame voters look for “players with peak performances in the NBA”.

Securing the win for Germany in EuroBasket 2025 and earning the MVP honor certainly elevates Dennis Schroder’s status. Unfortunately, not within the NBA. Fortunately, the player still has almost 5-6 years to further leave an impression in the domestic league. An impression that, combined with his international accolades, one day earns him a spot at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
