The Milwaukee Bucks registered their fourth win last night against the Detroit Pistons. The win was a close one and had some controversial moments. But it took the Bucks to second position in the Eastern Conference. The final score stood 120-118 in favor of the Bucks. But there was a moment involving Giannis Antetokounmpo that grabbed all attention.

The highest scorer for the Bucks is their newly acquired superstar Damian Lillard with 34 points. The Bucks brought in Lillard through a blockbuster trade before the season started and are reaping the harvest for their decision. However, their captain, the big man Giannis Antetokounmpo, got into a bit of trouble in this game. He got ejected in the third quarter. What might be the reason for that?

Giannis scored 15 points, with 9 rebounds, and 5 assists, in his 22 minutes of staying on the court. After scoring a dunk, he landed in front of the Pistons’ star, Isaiah Stewart, and gazed at him for about a second. He then turned away from him and expressed his satisfaction. The referee found the move inappropriate and decided to eject Giannis.

Marques Johnson expressed his dissatisfaction at the incident. The Bucks legend used his X (formerly Twitter) platform to take a dig at the referees. Sharing the video of the incident, Johnson wrote, “Understand the context. Isaiah Stewart & the Piston bigs were locked in on Giannis at the rim early. Aggressive contest, deflections, blocks, effective in cup denial tactics.”

Johnson further said, “He (Giannis) had that break through moment dunking on “Beef Stew”, was understandably excited. You penalize that?” Neither the former star is happy at the decision, nor are the fans. They chiefly expressed disbelief all over social media.

Fans react, call NBA ‘soft’

In another video uploaded by ‘NBA on ESPN’, it is evidently clear that the fans are displeased. No wonder this decision has taken the Internet by storm. Fans are furious at this point and want the matter to be investigated.

In the video, it can be seen that Giannis challenged the decision at first by not going out. He rather sat alongside a fan, who got a chance to click a picture with him. After that, he went off.

A fan commented, “I actually do think the refs should be investigated for bets or conflicts of objectivity before games. I understand not punishing them all the time or they won’t do a decent job. However, you can’t do a bad call like that with a huge impact and not be looked into”

Another fan wrote, “People who keep saying the players are soft – its the league thats soft. Players have to walk on eggshells when refs are like this.”

Another concerned fan commented, “They need to remove that tech immediately. We want players to care, to be into the game.”

The fans getting furious at this is valid. However, the ejection is not too serious and will not result in Giannis getting fined. He will be back on court against the Indiana Pacers tomorrow.
