NBA legend Michael Jordan has a reputation of turning most of the things he touches into gold. MJ’s feats on the court and ventures off the court validate this position. However, some ventures have not worked out well for the 6x NBA champion. Charlotte Hornets, the team owned by Jordan, is one such enterprise that has been troubling His Airness. This season, the North Carolina side has been thoroughly disappointing. Aggravating the tensions, Hornets’ centerpiece LaMelo Ball got his ankle fractured in a recent game against Detroit Pistons.

Things were looking a bit bright for MJ’s team after Ball had returned from another injury, as they were on a five-game winning streak. However, Ball’s injury came as a big blow to the Hornets. Given the doomed fate of the North Carolina side, fans started bashing the team and even went to the extent of asking Jordan to sell the team. However, for MJ, there is still some hope as a 24-year-old star returned to the court.

Hornets star PJ Washington recovered from an injury and rejoined the squad for the game against Brooklyn Nets last night. Washington was out for the last four Hornets’ games after he got his right foot sprained. Though Washington and his team failed to emerge victorious on his return, the 24-year-old’s presence will be a solace for the team.

On the night of his return, Washington played for 36 minutes and scored eight points. The performance was not up to his stature, but that was understandable, considering his recent injury.

Moreover, Washington’s fitness is so remarkable that before this injury, the player had only missed one game in the entire season. Therefore, given his consistency and skills, Washington’s return is indeed good news for the Hornets.

It is true that Washington’s return has brought some relief for Michael Jordan and his team. However, the team at large has to do a lot to overcome the tumult. Even on Washington’s return, the Hornets put on a disappointing display as they lost 86-102 to the Brooklyn Nets. With LaMelo Ball out for the season, MJ and his team have a lot of burden on their shoulders.

Given LaMelo’s injury and the wrath of the fans, MJ will have to make some moves to set things straight. Despite the disappointing record, the Hornets will be hoping to land the first pick in the 2023 NBA Draft and win the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes.

The Chicago Bulls legend might need to build the team again and silence the outcries. If the team is not built properly, Washington’s return might turn into an occasional happy episode in the general drama of pain for ‘His Airness’ and the North Carolina side.
