As 4x WNBA Champion Commemorates her Big Day, Dwyane Wade Honors the 42 YO With One Word on Social Media

Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade has emerged as one of the inspiring figures in the NBA world with his continuous activities off the court. Wade and his wife Gabrielle Union have regularly expressed their opinions about various affairs around the globe. However, he very much remains a big fan of the game. Just days after he was spotted having fun with Magic Johnson during Game 3 of the NBA Finals in Miami, the 3x NBA Champion took to his Instagram to honor a WNBA legend on her special day with a one-word remark. 

With his dashing red carpet appearances to supporting his daughter through thick and thin, Wade has been regularly making headlines. Meanwhile, Sunday marked an iconic moment for a legend of the game, Sue Bird. Wade made sure he gave the 5x Olympic Gold medallist props for her historic career.

Seattle Storm legend Sue Bird ended her basketball career last year with her trophy cabinet filled with numerous accolades. As a mark of respect for her efforts, the Seattle franchise raised her jersey to the rafters after the Storm’s game against the Washington Mystics on Sunday night. While tributes flooded in from all directions during her jersey retirement ceremony, Dwyane Wade also chimed in with a special message. Wade shared the video of Bird walking alongside her girlfriend, Megan Rapinoe, on her way to the ceremony on his IG stories.

Importantly, he gave her a one-word shout-out, writing, “Legend”. Bird spent her entire career in Seattle and led the franchise to 4 WNBA championships. On top of her WNBA and Olympics success, the 42-year-old also won two NCAA championships and 4 FIBA World Cups. Having won almost everything she could have won, Bird decided to retire after the Storm lost in the 2022 WNBA playoffs.

In a career spanning 416 games, Bird averaged 11.4 points with 5.5 assists per game. Apart from her basketball prowess, she also constantly inspired the upcoming stars of the game.

Sue Bird left a 2023 NCAA women’s basketball team in shock

Bird has always stood as one of the greatest ambassadors of the sport. She single-handedly lifted the spirits of the Iowa Hawkeyes players during the recently concluded March Madness. Ahead of the team’s Semifinal contest, Bird made a surprise visit to the hardwood and left the players in utter shock. Notably, the star player, Caitlin Clark scored 41 points in that game. Moreover, Bird continued to inspire the upcoming women’s basketball players with her presence.
