The 2016 NBA finals was famous for the Golden State Warriors botching a 3-1 lead against the Cleveland Cavaliers as LeBron James went ham on them after Game 4. That match was a turning point for the Warriors and the Cavs. LeBron did not take comments from Klay Thompson and Ayesha Curry lying down. He ensured that the Warriors remember this for a long time. To date, no team has ever botched a 3-1 lead like Golden State.

Of course, players like Klay Thompson still didn’t know what was in store for them. After Game 4, he implied that James should not have been so upset with Draymond Green’s trash talk. “I guess his feelings just got hurt,” said the shooting guard during the post-match press conference.

A reporter then relayed this quote back to James, who preached that he was going to take the hard road even though it was difficult to do so and laughed. It was understandable that he wanted to lash out, but that was not certainly taking the high road.

Ayesha Curry, then hit back stating, “High Road. invisible bridge used to step over said person when open floor is available left to right,” in a tweet on June 13th of 2016.

That day, on Game 5, James and Irving scored 41 points each to beat the Warriors 112-97. LeBron again brought the “Heat” on the Warriors during Game 6. He had a historic performance of 41 points, 11 assists, 8 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 blocks whilst only committing 1 turnover.

The Cavaliers became only the third team in history to fall behind 3–1 and force Game 7 (and the first in 50 years).  James, too, had a rare achievement unlocked. He was the first player to have consecutive 40-point games in the Finals since Shaquille O’Neal in the 2000 Finals.

The Cavaliers finished the comeback in Game 7 when they beat them in Oakland, their home. During the last few minutes of the game, the score was tied at 89. Andre Iguodala had an easy layup chance, but James came in sprinting and with determination to block it. It’s still one of the most iconic moments from that Finals. Kyrie Irving scored a three-pointer and after that, the match was sealed by James getting one of his three free throws with little over ten seconds remaining.

James was named the Finals MVP as he scored 29.7 points per game. This included his two successive 41-point performances in Games 5 and 6. He gave Klay Thompson a suitable answer in the end.
