More than halfway into the season, the Golden State Warriors have been on a rocky road. Apart from having several of their star players injured, the team hasn’t been able to shoulder the load as reigning champions. Placed ninth in the Western Conference, the Dubs’ front office surely received calls for some change. As a logical choice, with the trade deadline nearing, they brought back Gary Payton II for a much-needed upgrade in their defense. However, the Bay team had to bid adieu to one of their bright young stars.

Despite the loss, the Warriors are still following James Wiseman‘s journey as he took the floor for the first time with his new organization. Often seen as the mouthpiece for the Warriors, Draymond Green took to Instagram to show some love, as his ex-teammate embarks on a new journey.

Over the past couple of seasons, the defending champions have had one intention: to win a championship. Being home to a star core led by Stephen Curry, the franchise wants to make the most of its prime years. However, their goals served as a downside for former Memphis center James Wiseman. As a raw prospect, constant injuries never allowed him to fully be injected into the system. In addition, with a win-now mentality, the space for opportunities was slim.

In the recent deal, he was one of the pieces dealt to the Detroit Pistons in the trade for GPII. After their break up, Stephen Curry spoke about the young star and felt the Bay squad couldn’t offer him the time of the day. He said, “I know it’s been said, but it wasn’t going to be here. It was tough to find minutes for him.” The two-time MVP also mentioned wanting to see his former teammate succeed. Tonight, the 21-year-old took the floor for the first time as a Piston. The big man’s new role saw him flourish, and Green loved what he did on his first night.

Draymond Green shows support to former Warriors star James Wiseman

Green’s impact on the Warriors might not be visible in numbers as much as his Splash brother teammates. However, the younger talents of the Warriors would probably have high praise for the former DPOY. The four-time champion is a well-established mentor for his developing teammates. He took a similar stance to Wiseman. There were moments when Green lectured the former number two overall pick on the court. He arguably saw the spark in James Wiseman and took him under his wing. Likewise, seeing him go might not have been easy. However, that doesn’t mean the veteran can’t watch and admire from afar.

The former Warrior enjoyed a sublime night out in his Detroit Pistons debut. Impressed by the performance, Draymond Green wrote on his Instagram story, “Young fella in the mitten!! Go be a star”

Wiseman was all over the floor in the Pistons’ loss to the Boston Celtics. In just 23 minutes, he amassed 11 points and 5 rebounds against an impressive defense. The 21-year-old arguably has the tools to be an effective modern-day center. He is a killer on the glass and can score in the interior. Moreover, the former Memphis center’s size allows him to be a capable rim protector.

Unfortunately, his timeline didn’t match with the Golden State Warriors. As a raw talent, Wiseman needed to get in minutes. However, with his injuries, he never became a regular with the Dubs. The Warriors are more focused on creating a system to win. In these times, it was nearly impossible for them to develop Wiseman’s gifts.
