The NBA world is not easily impressed. Not even with the latest accomplishment bagged by Los Angeles Lakers star, Russell Westbrook, despite the fact that he made a historic record tonight against the Orlando Magic. Prior to the game as well, there had been a lot of chatter about him getting the Sixth Man of the Year award. However, the league’s fans questioned Westbrook’s history-making moment with the hefty contract he was under. One fan wrote, “He gets $47 million to start off the bench“.

Russell Westbrook’s triple-double tonight made NBA history. He finished the game with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists to register his third triple-double of the season. Moreover, all of them have come off the bench, making him the first player to do so.

Here are some of the reactions from NBA Twitter:

After the game, Westbrook addressed the media and asserted that it was his responsibility to “make guys better, and I take pride in that”. He also added that he was “accustomed” to making plays.

Are fans justified in their judgment?

At the beginning of the regular season, the slander for Russell Westbrook was really high. He was labeled as “Westbrick” for a long time for his poor performances. But head coach Darvin Ham stuck to his conviction that Westbrook could thrive in another role.

Ham spoke to ESPN’s Malika Andrews and said, “We just freed him to go be Russ“. Ham added that Westbrook has been getting better with each passing game. His playmaking abilities have helped the Lakers a great deal.
