His past tryst with the Cleveland Cavaliers got him exiled from the team due to concerns regarding his behavior. Porter Jr also left in the middle of the game, when he was with the Rockets. His behavior may have prompted the Rockets to lead with caution.

This bizarre deal could prove to be mutually beneficial. Even though only his first year is guaranteed, the money for that year and the boost of confidence from his team would motivate him to put his best foot forward.

The GM of the team, Rafael Stone declared that he was happy that Porter Jr is continuing to be in the team. His statement also said that as the NBA players show commitment to the sport, so does the team in continuing to build opportunities.

NBA star, Porter Jr also told the media that the Rockets “saved” his life. He had been rebuilding his career and it showed in many of his games. It is no wonder that the Rockets invested in their player. But they also wanted to tread carefully, knowing that this deal could dramatically improve Porter Jr’s game. However, should there be misbehavior from the NBA star, they could also pull the plug.

News reports stated following the announcement that the Rockets can let go of Porter Jr, should they find a reason to do so, without paying the full prescribed amount.

For now, Porter Jr is advised to be a horse with blinkers to continue his race.
