Luka Doncic’s advice to Christian Wood worked in game 2 win

Dallas Mavericks lost their opening game of the season to Phoenix Suns. They squandered a 17-point lead from the first half and lost the game by 2 points. Christian Wood scored 25 points in his opening game vs the Suns. However, he missed 7 free throws in the game and that might have changed the course of the game. But Doncic had a piece of advice for Wood after the game.

“It’s more mental than anything,” Doncic said about Mavs’ free-throw struggle vs the Suns. “Miss a couple, and then you’re just thinking ‘Oh, I can’t miss again.’ Stew on that some more and then probably you miss again.”

“It’s a lot of mental. You’ve just got to forget what happened and then just go on the line and [not] think about it.”

It appears that Doncic’s advice worked as Wood impressed in his 2nd game as a Mav. He scored 12 out of 14 free throws he attempted during the game. Wood excelled against the Grizzlies and is making a case for himself to be picked as a starter this season.
