In his memoir, ‘Unguarded’ Scottie Pippen detailed how he toyed around about getting back in the game after his retirement. He admitted he was open to a coaching position after missing the game “terribly”. Interestingly, Pippen spoke to Michael Jordan about it. Jordan was the minority owner and general manager of the Bobcats, aka Charlotte Hornets, from 2006.

The conversation between Pippen and Jordan, where he asked MJ “for a job” occurred two years after his acquisition.

Michael Jordan had appointed Larry Brown as the Hornets‘ new head coach. Jordan asked Pippen to talk to Brown. Scottie Pippen wasn’t offended, since he believed that the coach had the right to select their staff without any interference from the owner. However, Larry Brown turned the offer down.

“I didn’t ask Michael, or Brown, for a job ever again,” said Pippen.

It was no secret that Scottie Pippen wanted to play more basketball. Following his retirement in 2007, Pippen announced he wanted to play in the league again at the age of 41. Unfortunately for him, no team came forward. Others suspect the reason was more fiscal than anything else. Some others believed that Pippen wanted to play to outnumber Michael Jordan’s 6 championship rings.

Even if the NBA didn’t bite, he made an international comeback in Scandinavia in 2008.

Scottie Pippen was no longer amused

Pippen returned to the Chicago Bulls as a team ambassador in 2010, and then eventually became a senior advisor in 2012. Coincidentally, after ‘The Last Dance’ aired, he was quickly deposed from this position.

In his book, he clearly stated how upset and disappointed he was with the docu-series. He said that the film “glorified Michael Jordan“ and sidelined the rest of the team. Pippen asserted that Jordan could have changed the narrative but chose to go on with the series.
