Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant is a huge hip-hop fan. While the two-time NBA champion is one of the best basketball players on the circuit, he also has an artistic side to him. When he is not busy crushing his opponents on the court, he is either listening to his favorite artists or making music of his own. With the 2022 year coming to an end, Durant recently declared his favorite album of the year.

Kevin Durant listed his top five albums of the year 2022 in a recent episode of The ETCs Podcast. The two-time NBA Finals MVP got together with co-host, Eddie Gonzalez, to talk about the albums they most liked this year and ranked them accordingly. Interestingly, both Eddie and KD named the same artist’s album as their top pick.

After the podcast host, Eddie Gonzalez listed his top five, Kevin Durant shared his list of favorite albums. In fact, KD named Rapper Future’s album I Never Liked You as the best album of the year. Durant stated that he liked Future’s music for his transparency, vulnerability, and confidence. Future released his ninth album on April 29, 2022. The track list featured several artists such as Drake, Young Thug, and Kanye West, to name a few. The 50 million worth rapper’s album was certified platinum in November by RIAA.

“I think when I heard it though, where I was, it just made it a moment. And on top of just…every song was, I don’t think he had any misses on here,” the Nets forward told Gonzalez.

Additionally, KD complimented Future for being authentic with his music. Other than Future, Durant also included artists Kodak Black, Steve Lacy, 38 Spesh, Drake and 21 Savage in his top five lists.

KD has a hip-hop track of his own

Kevin Durant’s interest is not only limited to listening to music by his favorite artists. In 2017, Chris Haynes from ESPN reported that there was a hip-hop track that KD and fellow NBA superstar LeBron James had released in 2011. As per reports, Durant and LeBron worked on the track during the 2011 NBA lockout when the former visited King James for workout sessions. Apparently, given the lockout, both athletes had a lot of time to kill. Therefore, they came up with their own set of lyrics and created the track.

Reports of the track to be used in the film ‘Thunderstruck’ starring KD, had came forth. However, the executive producer of the movie, Eric Goodwin, stated that the Nets superstar needed to be keener about the idea.

“I heard the track years ago during post-production for ‘Thunderstruck’. It was very good. I suggested submitting it to Warner Brothers for the movie soundtrack, but KD wanted to keep it private,” said Goodwin.

The track later came to be known as ‘It Ain’t Easy’ and was released in 2018.
