Interestingly, the topic was brought up again in an episode of The Breakfast Club where Smith clarified the entire situation while also blaming his fellow sports commentator Skip Bayless for making the situation worse.

Stephen A. Smith got subjected to harsh criticism when he made a bold comment involving Ayesha Curry and Savannah James. After LeBron James‘ Cleveland Cavaliers won against Stephen Curry‘s Golden State Warriors in Game 6 of the 2016 NBA Finals, Ayesha tweeted that the game was allegedly rigged, while also fuming due to travel inconveniences. Smith did not take Ayesha’s accusations too well and ‘suggested’ she be more like Savannah James which only further escalated the situation.

Stephen A. Smith blames Skip Bayless for all the backlash

Stephen A. Smith recently made an appearance on The Breakfast Club where he cleared the air regarding the Ayesha Curry situation. Smith clarified that what he had meant by his comments was that being the wife of an NBA superstar, anything she said would be reflected on her husband Stephen Curry. He added that while he only meant that Ayesha needed to be more careful about what she said or did considering the gravity of the NBA Finals, sports columnist Skip Bayless disagreed with his comments and ‘misunderstood’ him, which actually brought up LeBron and Savannah James’ names into the mix.

Smith recalled Bayless’ comments and explained, “I’m jumping in like, ‘Wait a minute, you will get on LeBron about anything. How all of a sudden this escapes you?’ You know what I’m saying? So that’s how the whole Savannah-Ayesha thing came up. Because what I was saying was, ‘If this were LeBron, you would have found an excuse to jump on him and we all know that Savannah is phenomenal. So what are you talking about?’ That’s all I was saying.”

The NBA analyst further shared that he regretted not making a better effort in explaining. Smith felt that should have brought up Hillary Clinton’s situation to drive his point home.

Smith compares Ayesha Curry to Bill Clinton

Seven years after being in a tight spot for his comments about Ayesha Curry’s ‘outburst’, Stephen A. Smith revealed one point he could have made to make himself clear. He explained that when Hillary Clinton was a Presidential candidate, her husband and ex-POTUS Bill Clinton had to be careful with every step he took to avoid attracting negative press for his wife.

He said, “My regret was at the same I didn’t say, ‘You are Hillary Rodham Clinton. Bill Clinton, you cannot get yourself into some nonsense because she running for the President, you understand? You can’t be out there messing up because it’s going to bring attention to her while she’s trying to win the presidency’.”
