Michael Jordan and his iconic life stories have always been adored by fans. Fittingly, the latest project to address MJ’s life was eagerly awaited by his followers – the movie Air, which features a previously unheard story from Jordan’s life, was released yesterday. Amidst the promotion by its cast, which includes Matt Damon and Ben Affleck among others, the former revealed an interesting fact about the movie that holds special value to Damon.

The last production on Jordan’s life before this was The Last Dance, which was immensely popular among fans. The documentary showed the Chicago Bulls legend in a new light, as everyone got to know about his behind-the-scenes struggles in the ’90s. Although Air features a completely different story, Matt Damon recently revealed how the unprecedented tale isn’t the only surprising thing about the movie.

The highly anticipated movie on MJ’s life will feature the story of Jordan’s iconic contract with popular sports-apparel brand Nike. With a star-studded cast, including Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Chris Tucker and Viola Davis, the movie surely has a good run lined up ahead.

The journey to make the movie became very special to its cast members and to Jordan himself. Tbe release date itself – 5th April 2023 – proves iconic for Michael Jordan as well as the movie’s lead actor, Matt Damon. In a recent episode of the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, the Academy Award-winning star revealed how the movie’s release date was special for him.

“This [5th April] is the day we [Damon and his wife Luciana Barroso] met 20 years ago,” said Damon. He explained how it coinciding with the release of Air wasn’t the only thing that was surprising, “…Actually…the movie…is releasing today and we realized that Michael Jordan wore two numbers in his career, 45 and 23, and the date is 4/5/23. Isn’t that crazy?”

Although many would surely remember, some might find it difficult to recall Jordan wearing anything but no. 23 for the Chicago Bulls. However, following a few tumultuous years in his personal life that included his first retirement and the tragic death of his father, MJ returned to the Chicago Bulls and wore number 45 for a very special reason.

Following the tragic death of Jordan’s father, the Chicago Bulls legend decided to retire from the NBA after almost a decade of scintillating performances. Many would remember how Jordan transitioned to play baseball for the Double-A Birmingham Barons after that.

Jordan famously donned the number 45 in his baseball team and continued to wear the same number upon his return to the Chicago Bulls. In his autobiography, For the Love of the Game, Jordan revealed that he didn’t want to wear no. 23 because it was the last number his father watched him play in. However, MJ soon changed his mind as he reverted back to his number 23 – after 23 games.
