NBA superstar LeBron James has been one of the biggest faces of Nike ever since he made his NBA debut. As a 19-year-old, James signed a massive $90 million contract with Nike even before he was drafted. Recently, he signed a lifetime contract with the company. Furthermore, Nike honored James by naming a new building after him, the LeBron James Innovation Center. Despite his connection with Nike, the four-time NBA champion congratulated his close friend and agent Rich Paul when he signed a deal with Nike’s competitor New Balance. But now, James’ wife Savannah is reportedly in a legal dispute with New Balance.

Savannah James faces trademark dispute with New Balance

Rich Paul recently launched a new sportswear brand with New Balance called Klutch Athletics. Paul took to social media to share the news with the world and stated that the apparel company will focus on youth sports and training. LeBron James congratulated his agent and shared the post on his Instagram story. Similarly, Savannah James is reportedly launching a brand called BLNCE. James’ trademarks holding company, SRJ Trademarks, LLC filed a trademark application for BLNCE seeking to use the mark in connection with various items including athletic apparel, coffee, yoga mats, crystals, precious stones, and vitamins. But New Balance has filed an opposition against the trademark application.

According to a report from a trademark lawyer, “In January 2023, New Balance filed an opposition against James’ trademark application for “BLNCE”, claiming that James’ trademark ‘so closely resembles their NEW BALANCE trademark that, when used in connection with the claimed goods and services in Classes 25 (clothing) and 35 (retail store), it is likely to cause confusion, mistake and/or deception in the relevant trade and public.'”
