Jordan auctioned his iconic red jersey
Michael Jordan’s jersey that he wore in the 1998 NBA Finals smashed the previous record for a piece of game-used sports memorabilia at auction. The iconic bright red jersey was sold for a price of $10.1 million dollars. A price that no one expected it to be sold at. As per reports, the sale’s organizer, Sotheby’s, revealed that the jersey attracted 20 bids altogether. Apart from the Jersey, a June 1998 issue of Sports Illustrated was also on sale. It had Jordan on its cover.
The auction comes after a 2021 auction in which a pair of Jordan’s sneakers from his first season with the Bulls brought in almost $1.5 million. According to Brahm Wachter, head of streetwear and modern collectibles at Sotheby’s, the sale of Jordan’s jersey was thrilling for both sports fans and avid collectors. This auction proves Jordan’s reputation as the “undisputed GOAT,” proving that his name and legacy are still as important now as they were more than 25 years ago.
