The Philadelphia 76ers take a 3-0 lead over the Toronto Raptors courtesy of Joel Embiid. Embiid hit a three to give the Sixers the lead in overtime and this was enough to secure victory. But one NBA legend was not happy with the play calling, especially the buzzer-beater.

Charles Barkley was visibly frustrated looking at the last plays of the game. He was mad at the Sixer’s play call at the end of the regulation. Embiid received the ball on the wing and he took a tough contested three. If not for Doc Rivers, the Sixers would have been in the same situation in overtime. Doc called the timeout in the nick of time, and he was able to draw up a play and secure a good look. And luckily for the Sixers, Embiid made the shot and secure the victory. But Chuck was not happy.

Chuck wants the coach who drew up the play to be fired despite Joel Embiid hitting the game-winner

Barkley was mad at the play calling of the Sixers. After seeing the play at the end of regulation, Chuck said, ” This is one of the worst plays in basketball I’ve ever seen in basketball. You don’t draw that up. Somebody, Who Drew That Up, Need To Get Fired ?

To be fair to Chuck, the Sixers’ play calling was awful at the later stages. When you have a dominant big like Embiid who has been going off in the second half, they should have put him on the post and the block and asked him to make plays. Instead, Embiid received the ball at the top of the key or the wing and he would have to make tougher shots.

Chuck and Shaq have been critical of Embiid in the past as he used to play on the perimeter. They wanted him to dominate the paint like a big man. To Embiid’s credit, he has listened to them and he has been a monster in the last two years. This year, he has upped his game to even higher standards. But he needs to dominate even in the late stages and not settle for contested fadeaway threes. It’s not that he can’t make those, although it would be better for the Sixers and Embiid to get a higher percentage shot.
