Russell Westbrook and the Los Angeles Lakers have now lost three in a row. Struggling to perform well the entire season, the Lakers have faced criticism regarding their roster. A common point of focus, however, seems to be Westbrook and his recent performance with the team.

While the team suffered a 124-104 loss, Westbrook called out Wolves players for their trash talk. As per the 2017 NBA MVP, no one on the Timberwolves team has done anything for the league.

The response to Westbrook’s words was extreme, especially as fans ended up questioning his career. After all, Westbrook’s acquisition has not exactly helped the Lakers yet. The 33-year-old is having one of his worst offensive seasons and has been called out for a majority of his time with the Lakers.

Fans react to Russell Westbrook, Patrick Beverley on Twitter

Along with fans, Patrick Beverley made sure to respond. The veteran pointed out that he made playoffs every year, reached the Western Conference Finals with two teams, and asked Westbrook what stats he was looking for. According to Beverley, this is a team sport. By asking Westbrook to choose a stat, he apparently wanted to remind the Lakers star that in the end, it is the team that wins or losses.

Though the dedicated Lakers fan defended his team, Westbrook was under fire for his performance.

While he might be better on the court than Beverley, his game is not helping his team win. Fans supporting Beverley and the Wolves added that the focus is on the win, and not the performance of one player.

Westbrook is currently shooting 43.3% from the field while averaging 18 points per game. Fans added that his contribution should help win games. Though Beverley might average lesser points, his experience on the court has helped the Timberwolves immensely.

What else did Westbrook say?

While speaking of the trash talk, Westbrook also mentioned focusing on the next game. “That’s fine, they’re good, they won a game. Happy for them. We move on to the next one.”

He mentioned being unbothered by the trash talk, especially as no one on their end has done anything.

Eventually, fans even spoke of Westbrook’s performance postseason. As per a few, Westbrook barely played well during the playoffs without Kevin Durant around.

Having said that, the Lakers will be facing the Toronto Raptors next. Though a win is necessary, this matchup is preceded by the Raptors dominating 114-103 win over the Lakers. However, the team has to carry on, hoping to register a win. After all, their current rank (9th) in the Western Conference only qualifies them for a play-in tournament, and not the playoffs.
