Stephen Curry recently opened up about how he received a lot of attention from critics and fans during the epic five-year Finals run with the Golden State warriors. Curry emerged as the leader of the Warriors during that time, helping his team win three NBA championships between 2015 and 2019. The four-time NBA champ also admitted that he silently observes everything on social media after the incredible five-year Finals streak with Golden State.

Stephen Curry recently made an appearance at The Old Man and The Three podcast. He shared his thoughts on building the Warriors’ culture, his battles with LeBron James & Kyrie Irving, and how the NBA has changed over the years.

Stephen Curry developed the ability to notice the chatter

During the conversation, Steph was asked if he always had the ability to see everything on social media. Curry revealed that he developed his ability to observe during the five-year period of making it through to the Finals consistently. At that time, the Dubs guard admittedly was struggling to make sense of all the chaos surrounding him and the team, and simultaneously, trying to stay aloof from all of it.

Moreover, the Warriors guard shared that reaching the Finals for the first time in 2015 was an eye-opening experience. In fact, he had to learn to deal with the media attention, scrutiny, mood swings, and narrative changes that happened between games.

Stephen Curry added, “I was like, I’m active on social media but not really but you kind of live your life the same way you have been you know your entire career, and then things just change overnight and you’re like, Yo! What the hell is happening?”

Furthermore, Curry suggested that with success on the court came a lot more scrutiny and hot takes about his game. The 2022 Finals MVP eventually realized that it always helped him to be aware of what was going on social media and be comfortable about where he stood.

He shared the challenges of living in the social media era where attention lasts throughout the year. So, being aware of everything helped the Golden State Warriors guard deal with tricky media situations and become more secure about himself.

Curry faces a new challenge

Consistency brings a lot of expectations in any sport. Reaching the finals for five-straight seasons has brought a lot of attention to the Warriors and Stephen Curry.

However, the Warriors had two tough seasons after losing the Finals in 2019. The team did not make it to the playoffs in 2020 and 2021. Luckily, the fortunes changed for Stephen Curry and co. in 2022 as they bagged their fourth championship in less than a decade.

Curry and the Warriors now face a bigger challenge this season after a difficult 8-10 start. With some internal issues within the team, Curry and his teammates need to rise above the chaos in order to win their second championship in a row this season.
