“Understood What He Was Saying Without Him Saying It”: Former NBA All Star Exposes LeBron James’ Special Request for Son Bronny

It is no secret that LeBron James has a keen interest in playing with his son. The 38-year-old player has repeatedly expressed this ardent desire on multiple occasions. Even in his recent interview with ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, James confirmed that it was still on his bucket list. He said, “I need to be on the floor with my boy, I got to be on the floor with Bronny“. At the same time, he has tried to remain objective about his son joining the league.

LeBron James handed a task to two-time All-Star Gilbert Arenas to scout the eldest son. His request had more undertones to it, which Arenas claimed that he understood.

Gilbert Arenas claimed, “I understood what he [James] was saying without him saying it“. What did LeBron James want Arenas to do? In an interview with VladTV, Arenas recalled how James had asked him to “put some eyes” on Bronny.

Arenas revealed that the intention may have been because of the media attention that the father-son duo has been garnering through the years. Bronny, who is currently playing college basketball, is prepping for his magnum opus of an NBA debut. Arenas believed that the four-time NBA champion wanted to gauge if Bronny was ready for that type of scrutiny.

Arenas did as he was told and reported back to LeBron. “You don’t have nothing to worry about“, he told James. He observed his mannerisms and his athleticism and drew parallels between the two. According to Gilbert, both of them shared the same level of speed, basketball IQ, and passion.

Hopes pinned on Bronny James

Bronny James is currently ranked as a four-star recruit by 247 Sports. According to CBS Sports,Bronny would not be eligible to enter the NBA Draft until 2024 due to the current age rules“. If that is the case, LeBron would be 40 years old.

In another interview, LeBron said that he would “do whatever it takes” to play with his son. He is in his 20th season this year and is one of the oldest players in the league. Even with Father Time looming around, the four-time MVP shows no sign of slowing down. He needs less than 500 points to surpass NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record.
