The Charlotte Hornets played party poopers on Sunday night, putting a halt to the momentum of the Golden State Warriors. In a closely fought tussle, Michael Jordan’s team came out victors. For the Warriors, it was the silent assassin Andrew Wiggins who was in belligerent form, scoring 28 points in his half an hour of game-time. Although MVP candidate Stephen Curry managed 24 points, it was a relatively quiet night for his standards.

After the Warriors took an early 7-3 lead, the game balanced out. In the first half, the teams split the lead, and it was 57 a-piece at the break. It was very hard to pick a winner between the two sides up until the end. In the first fixture, the Warriors comfortably overcame the Hornets challenge, with Jordan Poole wreaking havoc. During the return fixture, it was a feeling of deja-vu, as talented guards LaMelo and Curry clashed again. On the first occasion, Ball clamped into GSW’s #30 and fell over. Last night, the young 20-year-old was on the wrong end of a brutal foul, hurting Curry in the process.

With just three minutes left in the encounter, the Hornets held a narrow one-point advantage. As a shot from McDaniel missed the basket, both players jumped up for the rebound. In the brutality that ensued, LaMelo landed right on top of Curry, leaving the 33-year-old limping. The whistle was blown on the rookie, earning him his 5th personal foul in the process. Thankfully, he was able to shrug it off and guide his side to victory.

In LaMelo Ball, we can see flashes of Curry himself. Perhaps it is the commencement of a great rivalry over the next few years. The unfortunate loss means that Golden State now sit at 11-2, still topping the West. Nonetheless, the prowling oppositions are not too far behind!
