“Mahomes Isn’t There Yet..”: 63-Year-Old Lakers Legend Magic Johnson Left Fans in Denial With Heartfelt Note on Patrick Mahomes

NBA legend Magic Johnson does not only follow the NBA. He is a huge fan of major sports like football and baseball as well. With the NFL in its business end of the season, like most fans, Magic is seemingly very excited. He has been following the NFL playoffs closely and took to social media multiple times to share his opinion about some of the games. Johnson was not going to miss out on the Conference Championships. Moreover, it is safe to say the two games were completely different.

While the Philadelphia Eagles blew away the San Francisco 49ers to win the NFC, the Kansas City Chiefs edged past the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 to win the AFC. Superstar Patrick Mahomes played a huge part in the win and was compared with Magic Johnson.

During the AFC championship, Patrick Mahomes was compared with Magic Johnson for his impressive passing. The five-time NBA champion is as humble as anyone and stated that being compared to Mahomes was a compliment to him. He took to Twitter and wrote, “During the Chiefs vs. Bengals broadcast Tony Romo said AFC Champion QB Patrick Mahomes & I were similar in our passing ability, like the no-look pass. Thank you Tony for that special compliment!”

However, most fans were not in agreement with the Los Angeles Lakers legend’s statement. Here are some reactions:

Even though many fans applaud Mahomes’ huge performance, they think he still has a long way to go to reach the levels of Magic. However, most fans were confident quarterback would reach there when it was all said and done.

During the game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Mahomes won the battle of the quarterbacks with superstar Joe Burrow. Mahomes had 2 touchdown passes, 326 yards, and 0 interceptions with respect to Burrow’s 1 touchdown pass, 270 yards, and 2 interceptions. Kansas City Chiefs fans would be hoping Mahomes win another test against Jalen Hurts and lead the team to a Super Bowl win.

Magic Johnson is arguably the best point guard and passer the NBA has ever seen. With his ability to thread the needle, Magic helped elevate the Los Angeles Lakers’ style of play. Fans loved the quickness in their counter-attacks with Magic running the floor and his flashy passes.
