

Did Kiyan Anthony not inherit his basketball skills from his father but his mother? At least this is what La La Anthony has claimed in a recent Instagram post. Notably, the claim was in good humor and dedicated to Kiyan’s special day. La La and Carmelo Anthony‘s only child has turned 17 today. And La La has shared a series of Instagram stories and posts on this special occasion.

“Celebrating @kiyananthony all day!!! I figured today was a good day to let everybody know he really got his basketball skills from me (I’m playing 😂😂😂😂) HAPPY 17th BIRTHDAY KIYAN…I LOVE YOU 🎉🎂❤️❤️,” read the caption of an Instagram reel La La posted. The reel featured La La and Kiyan, taking to a basketball court and shooting some hoops.
La La also mentioned in the reel that she actually played basketball in high school. The video further showed the mother-son duo talking about the bond and the love they have for each other. “My relationship is that I spent 9 months of my life throwing up every single day to have this child…he is my everything,” said La La. Meanwhile, Kiyan described his mother to be his best friend.

However, this was not the first post by La La dedicated to her son’s special day. Earlier during the day, she posted another reel featuring the moments between the mother-son duo since Kiyan’s childhood days. “Happy birthday to my son and my greatest blessing Kiyan… 17 years old is CRAZZZYYYY… holding back some real tears… but sometimes I just sit by myself and thank God for bringing you into my life…,” read the caption to the reel, reflecting the love she shares with her son.

A closer look into the mother-son bond
Despite getting separated from husband Carmelo Anthony back in 2021, La La maintained a healthy relationship with the NBA great to ensure a positive parenting atmosphere for Kiyan. “We are incredible friends. We created this incredible human being. And we want to be a great example to him,” La La had said in a podcast with Jemele Hill.

She also highlighted in the podcast how she has always held her son’s individuality on her priority list. “Your journey does not have to mimic your dad’s journey. If at any point through the journey, you’re like, ‘Hey this isn’t for me,’ it’s fine,” she recalled her conversation with Kiyan.

Kiyan has also expressed the affection he holds for his mother on numerous occasions. He made one such gesture on this year’s Valentine’s Day itself. He presented a note to his mother reading, “Mom, you have been my valentine for 16 years now…Thank you for everything you do words can’t express how thankful I am to have to you in my life.”
