It takes a while before greatness becomes normal. In the NBA, a team needs to solidify its credentials before belonging to the upper echelon. As a result, a young and upcoming team like the Minnesota Timberwolves typically does not get a lot of love. While drastically ahead of schedule, the team has been on fire this season. With the best record in the West for the majority of the season, the team has played like a true contender. However, Charles Barkley isn’t ready to buy into them yet.

Because I don’t trust the big guys. I don’t think they dominate. Yeah, they’re great defensively. But you don’t have to score. I don’t trust their big guys scoring enough. Because this is just my opinion, I think their weakness is gonna be 3-point shooting.”

On that front, Charles would deliver solid reasoning for his doubts about the team. “Because they’re gonna play, in the playoffs, they gonna play…I don’t think big guys can guard 3-point shooters in the NBA. That’s just my personal opinion…I’m not a believer in the Timberwolves.”

Chuck has some solid reasons for skepticism. Instead, the Round Mound of Rebound, don’t call him that, is rooting for the Los Angeles Clippers this season. Winners of 18 out of their last 20 and thriving under the James Harden regime, LA has made a believer in Barkley.

However, it was Chuckster’s opinion of everyone’s favorite Michael Jordan son, Anthony Edwards, and his team that had fans going after the 1993 NBA MVP.

Fans turn on Charles Barkley for bold Minnesota take

Due to his comments, a few fans were quick to take the underdog, ‘nobody believes in us’ road. “@NBAonTNT aka Charles Barkley. Stay disrespecting the wolves. Twolves fans love that” Others, however, weren’t as smart from the jump.

Instead, they took the more aggressive route. Whether it be crude remarks, “Oh, Charles Barkley doesn’t believe in the Timberwolves? Cool gtfoh”, or outright rejecting his opinions, “Charles Barkley don’t watch Wolves ball and that’s why his opinion don’t matter to me,” the new host on CNN wasn’t a popular customer.

Others were quick to point out a general bias against their favorite team. Between Shaquille O’Neal engaging in a long rivalry with Rudy Gobert and not appreciating Karl Anthony-Towns, the fanbase had some opinions to make. “@NBAonTNT Crew hates the @Timberwolves. We could win it all and Charles Barkley would still say “I still don’t trust their big guys””

Some fans didn’t take his comments so lightly. Rather, they went on a long rant themselves, claiming that the team was the best in the league on the back of the number-one-ranked defense this season. “@NBAonTNT Charles Barkley Have you watched the Timberwolves this season? Pick a there’s the best team. Why are you hating on the team? Best defensive team in the whole league”

Maybe these comments sway Charles. But, with his adamancy, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

One take at a time

My earliest memories of a connection to basketball was through its popularity in my school. Eventually, that gave way to a genuine passion for the sport and the rest, is history. Whether it be gameplay, the tactics, the narratives, or the sheer art on display, the game speaks to me in a way few other things can.
