While some may have described Kobe Bryant as a tough person, no one denies his burning desire to learn more. The Black Mamba has often been appreciated for his work ethic and learning aptitude. Ex-ESPN commentator and former Warriors head coach Mark Jackson recollected one of his meetings with Kobe on similar lines.

In the recent episode of his podcast, Mark spotlighted how the 5x NBA champion was a guy who wanted to talk to people and learn. And how when he wanted to be educated on a certain topic, he found people that he respected. After he showed a decades-old picture of his son, Bluu, with Bryant, he revealed the story behind it. “One day, just get a knock on the door and it’s Kobe Bryant. Kobe Bryant knocking on the door, comes in and just sits for an hour, spends time with you (Mark’s son), spends time at the house, asked questions,” said Jackson.

He also admitted having found incredible respect for the Los Angeles Lakers icon. Not just because he was a student in the game of life, but for how he understood the importance of impacting other’s lives. “He was never too big for himself,” Mark stated.

Mark asked his son on the podcast if he remembered the story behind the picture. Bluu did not remember why Kobe Bryant was at their house that day. He, however, remembered the former NBA star as being the same way he has always been. “A younger version, of course. And then us going in the backyard and shooting some hoops, hanging out, him showing me some stuff,” he said.

This was where Mark shared the instance when Kobe visited their house during his stay with Steve Stout. The story truly reflects Black Mamba’s obsessive need to learn and improve.

Other instances that testify to Kobe Bryant’s desire to grow beyond limits

The biggest proof of this can be the acknowledgment from Kobe’s own inspiration, Michael Jordan. As per the author of ‘Michael Jordan: The Life’, Mike had admitted that Kobe had done the work to deserve a comparison with him. Jordan has even stated that Kobe was the only person to ever approach his work ethic.

And Black Mamba had instilled these principles for the game from his high school days itself. It is said that he used to show up to practice at 5 a.m. and leave at 7 p.m. In fact, as per Sports Illustrated, Kobe used to make his high school teammates play one-on-one games to 100. And it is a well-known fact, even admitted by several NBA stars, that Kobe carried this work ethic till the time he played the game. Who else could will their way to 60 points in their final game after 20 years?
