Talent runs in the Isaiah Thomas family. While the 34-year-old is a well-known NBA star, his cousin Tiara Thomas is a highly acclaimed singer and songwriter. The 34-year-old was recently on the Club 520 Podcast where she talked about her art in great detail. However, it was one sly jibe at Rihanna that made the headlines.

Tiara said that when she heard Rihanna on the Bad remix, she was upset about it. However, after a while, the 34-year-old saw the purpose behind rapper Wale doing a remix with someone like Rihanna.

Isaiah Thomas’s cousin talks about her resentment of Rihanna

Tiara said that the song Bad was written by her and Wale and as someone who loves their art, she was very protective of it. While the song was initially a hit with Tiara as the featured artist, putting Rihanna on the remix made it exponentially bigger. In the beginning, this didn’t sit well with the Academy Award nominee. When asked about it on the podcast, she said, “Nah! I was salty,” after hearing Rihanna’s vocals on her writing. However, she soon realized that they still owned the publishing rights to the song, and someone as big as Rihanna working on it was only going to benefit her.

Tiara acknowledged that she has nothing against the Barbadian singer and that she has always been a fan. She said, “I’m a Rihanna fan. That’s who I listened to in college. I had a haircut that was inspired by Rihanna”. Other than being a fan, Tiara also saluted the artistry in Rihanna’s body of work. She said, “To this day, out of all singers, Rihanna has the most well-put-together albums.” Clearly, jealousy didn’t play a part in her initial resentment towards the idea of Rihanna doing a remix of her song. More importantly, Rihanna’s feature made Tiara an even bigger star after the song was released.

Tiara Thomas was caught off-guard

Tiara said, “As somebody who is like a nobody from Indiana. You go online and you hear all these people talking… like… I wasn’t prepared for that.” Despite people saying that Rihanna took her song, the 34-year-old didn’t feel bad about it because she was up to making a lot of money off of the remix.

The major reason behind Tiara’s resentment was that she and Wale weren’t seeing eye to eye at the time the song came out. But once everything was settled, she could see the bigger picture and accept it as a W for herself.
