Two games, and two soul-crushing losses! The Boston Celtics aren’t just losing to the New York Knicks. They’re handing them their own obituary, one fourth-quarter meltdown at a time. First, an overtime choke after slipping from the 3rd-Quarter cushion. Then? An even uglier sequel: One-point loss in game 2 that felt like a funeral. The TD Garden crowd didn’t boo. They sat in stunned silence, watching a championship-caliber team disintegrate under the bright lights. And Paul Pierce’s heart broke, soon followed by his feet.

Only a few teams in NBA history have come back from 0–2 after losing both at home. The Celtics have the talent to be the next one… if Tatum rediscovers his killer instinct, if Mazzulla makes adjustments instead of excuses, and if the role players (looking at you, Pritchard and White) stop vanishing in crunch time. But right now? This smells like the end of an era, or the birth of a new Knicks dynasty. This was definitely not what was expected of the Celtics. Because if it were, Paul Pierce would’ve never placed a 15-mile-long bet on their winning.

Paul Pierce declared on FS1’s “Speak” that he would walk 15 miles to the studio in a bathrobe and barefoot if the Celtics lost. And although he did it with shoes on, Paul Pierce stood up to his words. The exhausted NBA legend later admitted on Instagram Live: “I ain’t never putting a bet on something like this ever again.” A brutal 20-mile lesson in why ex-players should stick to hot takes, not hot pavement. Later on, KG Certified, Kevin Garnett, took over, fully loaded with sarcasm over this bet that Paul had placed. He said, “They shot out of 82 games. They shot out a bike. Skateboard, bike, scooter.” He wanted Paul to just share what he had on his mind, while not considering a skateboard, bike, or scooter, and instead opting to walk! In a bathrobe!

Paul didn’t hesitate to hit him back with a, “No, this is good. This is better. The better for the country. Good for the country.” He swiftly and conveniently made the lost bet into a display of patriotism. But Kevin didn’t leave it there, he made a hilarious remark. “You don’t walk to the refrigerator, Lord. How you going to walk to work? You know what I’m saying? How you going walk the f all the way Pasadena?” Which was truly a genuine thought to ponder upon. But Paul could do it because for him, it wasn’t just for the Celtics, but apparently, the whole country.

Surprise Drive-By to check on Paul Pierce says it all

In the middle of Paul Pierce’s now-legendary 20-mile “walk of shame,” a moment of pure authenticity hit. Kevin Garnett rolled up when PP was midway to the FS1 studio. Not to rescue him, not to end it, but to remind him, in classic KG fashion, that some ties don’t snap. Not even over sore feet. With cameras catching it all, Garnett popped out his sunroof, hurling playful taunts as Pierce kept marching. “Be careful out here!” he shouted, half joke, half love. After Paul said, grinning, “I’m halfway in.” It wasn’t just laughs, but it was legacy, step for step with them.

Pierce and Garnett’s bond cuts deeper than Boston banners or NBA stat sheets. They first met as teenagers. Years before the spotlight found them, battling on the same summer circuits in the early ’90s as LA’s hungriest young stars. Paul Pierce even tried to pull Kevin Garnett to Inglewood High, offering him a roof and a shared dream of owning the city. However, KG went to Chicago instead, but the thread between them never snapped.

What’s your perspective on:

Are the Celtics witnessing the dawn of a Knicks dynasty, or is this just a temporary setback?

Have an interesting take?

Through years in the league, through wars on the court, through the blood-and-guts climb to that 2008 title, their friendship never cracked. Since retirement, their bond has continued publicly through projects like KG Certified, where Garnett frequently brings Pierce on as a guest. So when Garnett rolled up mid-walk, it wasn’t just a drive-by, but it was a brother clocking in. The jokes landed hard, but the loyalty hit harder. Even in a moment of public embarrassment, KG was there to roast Paul, support him, and it served as a reminder to everyone watching that their friendship was walking strong.
