After a historic, albeit infamous, Ring of Honor ceremony featuring Michael Jordan, the attention was on someone else this time around. And, to celebrate the touching honor, MJ’s youngest son was quick to pen a note for his grandma. “Just arrived in ATL to honor my Grandma…Love you Grandma,” was his message on X.

However, on his Instagram story, the 33-year-old went in depth about the unique honor that was being bestowed upon her. “The King Center presents the 2024 Beloved Community Awards. Among the honorees: Deloris Jordan, who will receive the Coretta Scott King Soul of the Nation Award. Learn more at thekingcenter.org. #KingHoliday #BCA #MLK #MLKDay #ShiftTheCulture”

The entire event has become an annual tradition to honor some of the most active difference-makers for civil rights across the country. Including a speech from Dr. Bernice King, CEO of the King Center and daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the event was a collaboration of stars and activists as a whole.

With everything that’s happening in the world today, this is a night that shines a light on the best of us…We’re excited to bring together this cadre of shining stars in such a dark time…I’m hoping people will walk away being more inspired to join in the efforts of the Beloved Community.”

A national philanthropist, Deloris has a resume worthy of the accolades. At the event, she would deliver a profound message with an eye for keeping the “dream” moving forward. “I think we are moving forward Dr. King’s vision and mission. We’re struggling a little bit. Some days are dark, but we have to keep getting up and moving forward, trying to keep the vision alive.”

After the exploits at the Ring of Honor event, a touching, heartfelt night might just be what the doctor ordered.

Even though the Ring of Honor is supposed to be an emotional event celebrating some of the franchise’s greatest namesakes, the situation in Chicago was emotional, for a whole different reason. Instead of cheers and appreciation, the crowd was raining down boos on former GM, the late Jerry Krause.

As his widow shed tears at the brutal showing by the fans, social media exploded over their classless act. However, the finger of blame quickly went to one person – His Airness. With Michael overseeing production for the documentary, fans were quick to call him out over the unfavorable light that it portrayed Krause in.

Going so far as to claim that Scottie Pippen, who has long been a critic of the show and its portrayal of anyone not named Jordan, was right, fans were understandably upset with the reaction from fans of the team. While the documentary made Jerry the reason for the team disbanding, it failed to showcase how the former GM was the reason for the dynasty coming together, and sticking, throughout its run.

One take at a time

My earliest memories of a connection to basketball was through its popularity in my school. Eventually, that gave way to a genuine passion for the sport and the rest, is history. Whether it be gameplay, the tactics, the narratives, or the sheer art on display, the game speaks to me in a way few other things can.
