Five-time NBA Champion Magic Johnson was seen reminding a certain NBA millionaire his worth as he was one of the many to be affected by the downsizing at ESPN headquarters.

ESPN reported that the company resorted to downsizing in turn to increase profitability. NBA legend Magic Johnson’s inspiring words might come as a source of strength for the people who were let go. He elaborated on the possibility of an NBA athlete donning several hats and not just being limited to one field.

Jalen Rose first joined ESPN in 2007 and has been loyal to the network giant ever since. He was one of the victims of the latest downsizings by the company. He recently held a conversation with the Los Angeles Lakers great Magic Johnson. Johnson was quick to remind Rose of his worth during this tough time of his professional career.

Magic Johnson said, “Athletes can become businessmen. They said before that they were talking about we can only play on the field or on the court. No way they can run a business. Now, look at you and I. You own your own company and I own my own company.”

He added, “So many people are proud of us. We are role models to so many people.” Johnson made it clear that athletes like Jalen, who has had a successful career as an athlete, are multi-talented and can also venture into the world of business.

NFL reporter Susan Kolber, a former NFL personality on the media network, was one of the many who was fired by ESPN. Susan took to social media and wrote, “Today I join the many hard-working colleagues who have been laid off. Heartbreaking-but 27 years at ESPN was a good run. So grateful for a 38 yr career!” Kolber’s firing from ESPN marked the end of her storied 38-year career as a journalist.
