The world lost Gianna and Kobe Bryant in January 2020. Many musicians, artists, players, and organizations are still keeping their memories alive nearly four years later. Vanessa Bryant, the late legend’s wife, is leading the effort. She teamed together with 90,000 admirers and a $23.28 billion firm to preserve a famous homage to the Black Mamba.

Vanessa asked her Instagram followers to sign a petition to save the monument, which she posted on her Instagram Story. Thankfully, a long-time collaborator of Kobe’s heeded the call.

Near the Crypto.com arena, Harcore Fitness in downtown Los Angeles displays the Black Mamba‘s mural on its wall. The gym owner told the Times that her landlord ordered that the artwork be removed by the end of September 2023 so that the space may be used for advertising. Seeing the same, Vanessa Bryant called for a petition and asked fans to band together and help preserve the artwork.

Ronnie Singh, 2K’s head of lifestyle and content marketing, announced “a philanthropic donation” to help maintain the artwork and sign the one-year contract. The parent company of 2K Sports and Rockstar Games is Take-Two Interactive, $23.28 billion video game developer. 2k Games assisted in reaching an arrangement to rescue Kobe Bryant and his daughter’s murals.

“We saw the petition, we saw how important it was for everyone, we had a discussion internally with our amazing marketing team and we’re like, ‘We gotta do something about this.…We had several conversations with the landlord, the tenant, a lot of people in the community and just figured it out,” Ronnie Singh said to The LA Times.

Vanessa’s plea resulted in over 90,000 supporters signing petitions, and the $23.28 billion corporation assisted in preserving the artwork and keeping the legacy alive for another year.

LA lives and breathes Kobe Bryant

The mural depicts the late NBA legend Kobe Bryant in a gold Lakers jersey and Gianna in a black and white Mamba Academy jersey, both with angel wings emerging from the skies. Ronnie Singh has scheduled a rededication event outside Hardcore Fitness, located at 400 W. Pico Blvd., which is a short distance from Crypto.com Arena.

After dedicating NBA 2K24 to the Black Mambait’s clear that 2K Sports will continue to support Kobe in whatever ways they can.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place just hours before the Lakers’ home opener against the Phoenix Suns. Fans in attendance at the ceremony and building will see the artwork as Palsino created it in 2020.

“We wanted to maintain the mural in its iconic form,” Singh said. “This is not about us getting a branding moment or anything like that. It was just important for us to do something for this mural that was about to be taken down. So no logo addition, nothing like that.”
