LAFC are poised to successfully defend their 2022 title as they clinched a spot in the MLS Cup against the Columbus Crew on December 9. LAFC co-owner and NBA icon Magic Johnson was understandably over the moon as he witnessed his team clinch their second consecutive Western Conference Championship against Houston Dynamo at the BMO stadium in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Taking to X (Formerly Twitter), Magic wrote, “Congratulations to the black and gold, my Los Angeles Football Club, for winning back-to-back Western Conference Finals after our 2-0 win against Houston tonight! We’re going to the MLS Championship for the second year in a row!!” However, he wasn’t done with the congratulatory messages.

In his next tweet, Magic congratulated the ownership group, along with the coaching staff and players, and wished them well for the final next Saturday. The Basketball Hall of Famer has been a co-owner of the expansion team since its formation in 2014. LAFC has had some incredible moments despite their relatively short time in the league. If Johnson’s team manages to win on December 9, they will become the first team in the last 10 years to win back-to-back MLS Cups.

Irrespective of the result next weekend, it was another successful season for the team from the City of Angels. They managed to clinch the third seed in the Western Conference as the regular season came to a close. In the playoffs, LAFC comfortably reached the Conference Finals with a 1-0 win over the Seattle Sounders a few days back. Unsurprisingly, Magic Johnson was all praise for the team’s performance as he shared his excitement.

Washington Commanders continue to struggle

Washington Commanders are struggling with a sub-par 4-8 record and a three-game losing streak. And they were destroyed in their last game against the Dallas Cowboys. The Commanders were annihilated 10-45 at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas.

After the game, Magic Johnson shared his thoughts on Twitter. He wrote, “The Dallas Cowboys beat my Commanders 45-10. Dallas was a better football team tonight, plain and simple.”

Magic has not shied away from expressing his disappointment with the Commanders previously as well. While he has only been a co-owner of the franchise for a few months, it is already clear to see that he doesn’t stand for mediocrity. Knowing how his other teams have fared over the years, it won’t be surprising to see Washington getting back on top soon enough.
