7x NBA All-Star Grant Hill recently made an appearance on the ‘All The Smoke’ podcast. During the conversation, he revealed his power clash against the 6-time champion.

Michael Jordan wreaked sweet vengeance on Grant Hill

In the 90s, Grant Hill was hailed as one of the most promising talents in the league. With his every game, the 6 ft 8 player proved and furthered his potential. Upon entering the NBA, he brought not just his skills as a top-tier basketball player but also embodied a refined persona, which symbolized the upcoming era of superstars. True to expectations, Hill delivered in his debut season, earning NBA Rookie of the Year accolades.

The 51-year-old legend took time off from his duties as the co-owner of the Atlanta Hawks to dish out some stories on ‘All the Smoke’. Speaking of a game against the Black Cat after his rookie year, Grant Hill recalled, “Reggie Miller, Juwan Howard, Dennis Rodman, all the UCLA guys were there…I go over there and play against Jordan and I played the first day, and I’m giving him the business.”

“I am killing Jordan. I’m not a shooter but everything I’m shooting is going in,” revealed the 2-time NCAA champion.

However, Michael Jordan wasn’t about to let him get away with that. Hill said, “The next day I come over, and I’m confident now man, and he gave me business. The next day I couldn’t get a shot off.”

It seems this is another example of Jordan taking it personally. His inability to accept defeat is what drove the Chicago Bulls dynasty.

Of course, those who  witnessed Grant Hill in his prime know how good he was. Hill was one of the supposed heirs to His Airness‘ throne. If it were not for his injuries, the legend would have dominated for many more years.

Grant Hill had a tough time dealing with his injury

Hill had the potential to become the next Jordan in the league. However, things turned south when he injured his ankle in 2000.

As he once recalled, the injury had an impact on his mental state as well. “I was pretty much told that I wouldn’t be able to play again. And to really kind of fight the mental, the emotional, and physical fight necessary and not to quit.”

Even with those injuries, he managed to pull off an average of 13.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. Despite those setbacks that definitely left a mark on his career, the legend finds a sense of pride in all his hard work and dedication.
