The Chicago Bulls did the unthinkable in the 1990s. They won six championships in a span of eight years. Michael Jordan took the team to never-before-seen heights. The Bulls dynasty helped elevate the team’s value to new heights, and because of their winnings from 20 years ago, the team still owns the 4th highest value among NBA teams. Along with the team, Jordan himself also grew his own brand significantly.

Although the main parts of the Bulls dynasty are the three-peats and Michael Jordan, the one factor that is often overlooked is fashion, particularly footwear.

Since 2014, Michael Jordan has been a billionaire. He made almost all his money after he retired from basketball. His shoes, Air Jordan, were the main reason behind it.

In the fiscal year 2022, Air Jordans brought in nearly 5.1 billion dollars to Nike. Because of the deal that Jordan signed when he got into the league, he made 5% of all sales for the Jordan Brand. This gave him 256 million dollars in 2022.

I did not follow the traditional route to become a journalist, but my love for basketball and writing has brought me here. Seeing LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers make the iconic comeback from a 1-3 deficit in 2016 changed everything for a young engineering aspirant within me. Rather than simply looking at the game, I love to analyze how each player contributes to a team using BPM (Box Plus Minus) and other advanced metrics.
