Earlier this year, Carmelo Anthony announced his retirement. After spending 19 years in the NBA and showcasing his dominance as a player, the fans have not failed to give Carmelo his flowers. His time with the New York Knicks elevated his stardom, and he became a major influential figure both based on his game and his personality.

From Beyonce to Jadakiss, the list is endless when considering the artists who have name-dropped Carmelo Anthony in their songs. This is just an ode to the influence he has had on the people and the culture, even outside basketball. Recently, Carmelo revealed which shout-outs were his favorites.

NBA on TNT recently posted a video on Instagram captioned, “King of New York 👑 @carmeloanthony“. In the video, Carmelo Anthony was asked, “What is your favorite lyric that you are mentioned in?

Pop Smoke was from New York. In a song called ‘King of New York‘, he called Carmelo the King of New York, and Pop said that he wanted to be like that someday. So when asked about his favorite lyrics, this was the first song that came to Carmelo’s mind.

But the one that Carmelo was most thankful for came from Beyonce. Kobe Bryant has his mamba mentality, but Carmelo has his hoodie Melo. In a song by the Carters called ‘Black Effect‘. Beyonce said, “Mobbin’ in a hoodie like Melo.

Carmelo was constantly seen in practices with a hoodie on his head. This led to many players and fans copying it. Carmelo said in the video that the hoodie helped him get into a different mindset and made him more focused. He said, “Beyonce really kind of validated and stamped Hoodie Melo“.

Carmelo was also shouted out by Lil Wayne and Jadakiss back in the day as well. Jadakiss’s son even thinks that his dad has had a similar life to that of Carmelo Anthony. Melo is openly grateful for the impact that he has had on people, hip-hop, and basketball culture.

Carmelo is loved in New York

In his six years with the team, Carmelo Anthony never won a championship or even took the team to the conference finals. But the New York fans are always thankful to Carmelo Anthony for being there. The Knicks loomed in mediocrity for years before they finally got a star in Carmelo Anthony. He made the games interesting in New York and gave people a chance to enjoy the matches.

Melo was from Brooklyn, so this made the fans adore him even more. His jersey is likely to be retired by the New York Knicks following his years of service for the team.
