Los Angeles Lakers had a disappointing season, to say the least. They were one of the favorites entering the new season after adding former MVP Russell Westbrook, but they couldn’t even make the play-in tournament. However, there was one man who tried to keep them in the hunt, and that man was LeBron James.

‘King James’ balled out the whole season and even led the scoring charts till almost the very end. But he didn’t seem too eager to win the scoring title.

He said that going after the scoring title will be the “most wackest thing ever” after the Los Angeles Lakers didn’t make the playoffs. James, who is in his 19th year playing the league, faced his fair share of criticisms for the Lakers’ disappointing season.

James came second in the scoring charts, averaging around 30.3 PPG with a shooting split of 52/35/75 throughout the regular season. He was leading the table until 76ers player Joel Embiid, who was in the second spot, had a great five-game run where he averaged around 37 ppg. This made him jump above LeBron in the charts.

LeBron couldn’t get the scoring title as he wasn’t anyway eligible due to the number of games he played throughout the season. He didn’t play the minimum threshold of 58 games, which makes one eligible for the title.

Many thought he will chase the title at least but he was rested for the final games of the season. Embiid was able to capitalize on this and became the first center to win the title after more than two decades. The last one was Shaquille O’Neal in 2000 for the Los Angeles Lakers, ironically.

The 2021-22 NBA season hasn’t helped remove that perception. It has reinforced more criticisms around the player. Lakers’ failure to qualify for the playoffs is being touted as James’ failure to win in a team that was “made” by him.
